Can’t Be Tamed🔥

Ohhh we are soo backkkk!! The topic I present today is for the free spirit, ladies. My life-of-the-party ladies. The screaming red ladies. The unapologetically themselves ladies. The ladies that have been called “too much,” or “too this,” or “too that.” The crazy ladies! This one hits a little close to home, but I love it! It is also a Miley Cyrus song. A young Miley Cyrus song. Which the second she released it and I heard it, I knew she was going to be a star. I loved the song back then and I never exactly knew why. I guess just the freeing energy to it. Now in my twenties, I relate to it just as much as I love it, and for a countless amount of reasons. All of which I will talk about on here and who knows, maybe this song might just become your new anthem.

So here it goes…

I have been told to be a really loud person. I don’t know if they meant it as a compliment, but I saw it as one, so that is all that matters. Personally, I thought it was pretty obvious, being that I am Hispanic, but they weren’t referring to a loud person; they were talking about someone with a loud personality. Right then and there, I definitely knew it was a compliment. We live in a time where everything has got a name and label, when for the longest time it was just called crazy. I found getting called crazy was the greatest compliment of all. The reason being was because normal was boring. With a fat capital B. Before I get canceled, normal is in fact not boring; it is just lame. I am just kidding. It is a total drag. I am just kidding again, normal is fine. Fine as wine, baby. But, I mean if you want to walk on the wild side and unleash the beast inside of you for a day or two, continue reading. 👇

Crazy nowadays is called having a free spirit. Sounds so nice, right? Sounds like a butterfly in a flower garden chasing a sunset. Being young, dumb, wild, and free. Doing as you please whenever you please. Until you become so free that people can’t control you anymore. Then you are right back at crazy. Oh, but you’re just being the life of the party, until you learn to make life the party. Then, you really are one crazy chick. “You just give off screaming red vibes.” Jokes on you, honey; red is my favorite color. I am way too much and you can try to call me whatever cutesy name to tiptoe around my feelings, but I already know I am a crazy chick and I am not apologizing for being who I am.

I know I wrote that last paragraph in a bit of a different format than I usually do, you probably think you were the one that called me crazy but really it is my letter to society. To the world that we should not feel conformed to fit into any little mold or system where we just simply do not belong. God created us uniquely. So why do we focus so heavily on what the world wants us to be. Why do we believe so much what other people have to say about who we are and value their opinion over ourselves.

I am a huge Deion Sanders fan. Actually, back when I used to play, my whole motto was: “If you look good, you feel good, if you feel good, you play good, if you play good, they pay good.” Payment obviously being a scholarship to play D1 ball, but you get the point. For me, that guy was the MAN. He had a way of saying things that just made sense to me. Back when I started my self-discovery journey, he got the head coaching job for the football program at Colorado. Boy, did everybody have something to say about his approach and strategies to try and rebuild a program basically off the ground. For my girls that don’t follow sports at all, I will give you a quick debrief. Deion showed up day 1 and pretty much told the entire team to go into the transfer portal. Badass, right? Well, I thought so, but it was a very unpopular opinion at the time. I saw it as the kind of test you need to present to a team that needed to transform into an entirely different team altogether. So you either respect the hard that is about to follow and prove why you deserve to play on a new Colorado team, or you pack up and go play on an entirely different team. Big power move, but the world did not see it as a good one or the right one I guess. Especially, not for a brand-new head coach. He received a lot of publicity at the beginning of that following season because, believe it or not, a previously known losing program was off to a blazing hot start. In a press conference, Deion shared some wisdom, and his response to all the hate he had received and it was as simple as this…

“Look at me. What about me would make you think that I care about your opinion of me? Your opinion of me is not the opinion I have of myself. You ain’t make me, so you can’t break me. You didn’t build me, so you can’t kill me. God established me so there is nothing you can do to me. I have been him. A difference maker. A game changer. I have been that guy. So what would change?… You just gotta be you”.

I remember hearing that for the first time and it couldn’t have been at a better time. During my first few weeks back at Michigan. Where I used to be a student-athlete that had my entire days blocked off with work outs, meetings, practice and class. I had to reinvent myself and my experience and forget everything I knew and the desire to get back to who I used to be. This was a fresh start for me, a brand new opportunity. After everything I went through, I made it to the light at the end of the tunnel. I owe it myself to be exactly who I am and never apologize or tame who that person is.

I am wired a different way. I am not a mistake, I am not a fake it’s set in my DNA. Don’t change me…I want to fly, I want to drive, I wanna go. I wanna be apart of something I don’t know. And if you try to hold me back, I might explode. Baby, by now you should know. I can’t be tamed. I can’t be blamed. I can’t be changed!

You cannot be tamed. So unleash the beast and have a fun and fabulous weekend ladies. God Bless you all!

Xoxo,
